Jio-bp partners with BluSmart to set up EV charging infrastructure in India

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) through its joint venture Reliance BP Mobility Limited (RBML) has tied up with Gurugram-based BlueSmart to set up Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.

The two sides may extend this partnership to an investment deal that will allow BlueSmart to increase the size of its EV fleet manifold and provide services outside the National Capital Region (NCR).

Negotiations are underway between BlueSmart and the fuel and mobility joint venture between RIL and BP. BlueSmart is an EV ride-hailing service provider with a fleet of over 500 electric cars and over 300 charging stations.

RBML, which operates under the Jio-BP brand name, is looking at active partnerships with major OEMs, technology and platform players to set up its EV Fixed Charging Stations with a format-specific approach for all vehicle categories. Under the arrangement announced on Thursday, along with BlueSmart, Jio-bp will set up a network of commercial large-scale EV charging stations across the country. Jio-bp will also set up these stations for passenger electric vehicles and fleets across the country.

BlueSmart, through its all-electric fleet, offers zero-surge and zero-tailpipe emission ride-hailing services in Delhi-NCR. The company plans to expand its network to other major cities across India.

“Through this partnership, the two companies will collaborate to plan, develop and operate EV charging infrastructure at appropriate locations in the cities where BlueSmart operates. With the first phase of roll-out taking place in the National Capital Region, these EV charging stations will be able to accommodate a minimum of 30 vehicles at each station and will be concentrated in urban areas.
